The BBC pundit also shared that, while many may have written off Ings’ chances of continuing in the top flight, he proved plenty wrong with his performance at the London Stadium.

Writing in his BBC Sport Team of the Week column [11 March], Crooks shared: “He had a goal disallowed, scored a beauty on the turn and another strike crashed against Burnley’s crossbar with the goalkeeper well and truly beaten – and Ings had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes.

“The 31-year-old hasn’t started a game in a West Ham shirt for some considerable time but managed to salvage a point for the Hammers in a game that looked lost at one point.

“In fact, some might have considered his time in top-flight football to be coming to an end. Well, based on his performance against a rejuvenated Burnley, it couldn’t have been further from the truth.

“Ings looks like a player with a point to prove and I think it might be in David Moyes and West Ham’s interests to let him prove it.”

Could Danny Ings have more impact at West Ham?

Ings dropped out of Moyes’ first-choice team despite the injury blows to Michail Antonio this season, preferring to start Jarrod Bowen as the main striker, as a result of several below-par displays from the former Southampton striker.

However, after an impressive showing against Burnley which also earned him high praise from Danny Murphy live on Match Of The Day 2, the chance may have presented itself for the striker to make his presence known once more.

Given his inconsistent displays earlier this season, and the return of Antonio alongside the form of Bowen, it will be hard for Ings to make a return to the starting XI, but his performance against Burnley was a good start.
