EXCLUSIVE; Amanda Staveley ‘discount’ investment at West Ham United mooted after Newcastle departure.

Kieran Maguire believes Amanda Staveley would be a “nice fit” for West Ham United should she invest in the club.

Finance expert Maguire, speaking to TBR Football [30 July], was reacting to speculation that Staveley may be eyeing a stake in West Ham.

Sean Whetstone, who runs the West Ham Football X account, suggested on Monday (29 July) that former Newcastle United chief Staveley could be interested in doing exactly that.

Staveley sold 5.7 per cent of her Newcastle stake this month and is said to want a new project in football, with West Ham a viable option as Vanessa Gold considers selling up.

“My concern is, how much money has she received for her stake in Newcastle and how much of that has gone to repaying the people who lent her the money in the first place?” Maguire said.

“She is much better as a facilitator and making her money on that basis than she is at day-to-day operational activities. Although, she is very good as the public face of the club – there is no doubt about that.”

Maguire went on to add that buying into West Ham would be considered a “discount” of sorts compared to purchasing a stake in a big six Premier League club.’

Amanda Staveley an interesting option for West Ham United

From the outside looking in, Staveley’s departure from Newcastle came as a surprise earlier this month.

Staveley helped with the takeover at St James’ Park, which has turned the Magpies into the world’s wealthiest club – not that you would know it.

United are clearly looking to someone else to come on board, although there has been contrasting information regarding Vanessa Gold and whether she intends to sell up.
