ASTONISHING; West Ham, Fulham and Leeds United linked £20m goal machine edges closer to transfer.

The Blackburn Rovers star took the Championship by storm last season and appears destined for a Premier League move.

West Ham supporting Championship goal machine Sammie Szmodics is edging ever closer to joining Premier League rivals Ipswich Town this summer after a breakthrough campaign with Blackburn Rovers last time out.

The midfielder finished as the second tier’s top scorer having plundered 27 goals for Rovers, despite the side’s underwhelming form resulting in a 19th place finish. Szmodics was unlucky to miss out on the Championship Player of the Season accolade after his efforts.

Unsurprisingly, the former Peterborough United man turned heads with that output and has been hotly tipped to quit Ewood Park. The Hammers were one of the club initially linked with interest in the player, those rumours were fuelled by news that Szmodics is a fan of the London club himself.

The midfielder is a former season ticket holder at the club and only stopped going to matches when he moved up north for his career – although still managed to come down for midweek European action. However, any potential transfer to the London Stadium never really left the stage of early rumours this summer.

The Sun reported that Fulham were another Premier League club said to be weighing up a move for the star, alongside Championship outfit Leeds United. News of the Whites’ interest picked up pace this week but the Yorkshire Evening Post has since labelled that as ‘wide of the mark’.

That paves the way for newly promoted Ipswich Town, who are now frontrunners to bring the Hammers fan to the top flight. The East Anglian Daily Times reported that the club had sent a £6 million bid for the player.
