CURRENTLY;, Everton is up against new competition for Arthur Melo after a formal inquiry.

Everton are set to face some new competition for the transfer of Arthur Melo from Serie A’s new boys Como, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The journalist reported via his website on 21 July that Como have set their sights on Arthur as Juventus look to move on the Brazilian this summer.

Di Marzio said Cesc Fabregas’ side have made an enquiry for a move but the midfielder’s high salary could prove to be a stumbling block.

Despite this new development, both Everton and Leicester City are still lurking for his transfer, Di Marzio said.

Everton should sign Arthur Melo this summer

Everton are set to undergo a close season of change once again and have already welcomed multiple new faces to their camp.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

In addition to those arriving, the Toffees have also lost, or are set to lose, some of their own talent.

Amadou Onana is the biggest name that Sean Dyche is set to lose this summer as the Merseyside club agreed a £50million fee with Aston Villa for his transfer [Sacha Tavolieri, 21 July].

Arthur would be an ideal replacement for the Belgium international as his favoured position is that of defensive midfield.

Both his defensive capabilities and his range of passing make the 27-year-old an ideal transfer for Dyche to complete.

His last stint in the Premier League, on loan with Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool, wasn’t the finest of his career and he will be looking to redeem himself in front of English fans.

And, for the reported fee of £12.6m [Mirko Di Natale, 8 July], there would be some money left over from Onana’s sale that could go towards improving other areas of the team.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared two transfers that he thinks the Toffees will make this summer.
