BREAKING NEWS; Virgil van Dijk partner, Mohamed Salah problem – Liverpool to-do list clear ahead of Ipswich game.

Liverpool transfer news as the Reds have plenty of work to do between now and their opening weekend trip to Portman Road

Liverpool and Arne Slot will kick-off a new era at Anfield in just over five weeks time when they start their 2024/25 Premier League season at Ipswich Town.

The Reds, led by a new face in the dug-out for the first time since October 2015, will look to start the new campaign in perfect fashion with two kind fixtures to kickstart the season before facing Manchester United at the start of September.

Slot’s side travel to newly-promoted Ipswich on Saturday, August 17, in what has the potential to be a banana-skin welcome for the Dutchman. Before the trip to Portman Road, the Reds have four pre-season friendlies to play and a whole lot of transfer business to be completed.

The Reds are yet to sign anyone in this transfer window but have lost Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian. The newly-formed recruitment team on Merseyside are working hard behind the scenes to sign the right candidates but business has, so far, been slow.

Arguably the main priority for Liverpool this summer is forming a system and tactical direction under the new management team. People have studied Slot’s style of play from Feyenoord and automatically insisted that it would be translated to his new group of players.

Virgil van Dijk, the club captain, has already discussed his excitement to work under Slot so the next step will be to ensure he has the best partner alongside him in defence. Ibrahima Konate and Jarrell Quansah are the two candidates to take up that role but the signing of a world-class centre-back could hand the Reds a solid partnership in defence and set them up nicely for the season ahead.
