Often when players leave Premier League clubs on loan for other countries, the English side has to continue paying a percentage of the player’s wages, such is the gulf in finances.
According to the Italian newspaper, Newcastle United and Everton remain interested in taking Arthur Melo from Juventus this summer. The Brazilian failed to shine during a loan move to Liverpool, but did well for Fiorentina during the last campaign, also on loan, and it looks like he’s now closer to his top level.
Arthur was one of the players used as commodities by Barcelona and Juventus, in deals which saw sanctions against the Italian side. It really harmed his career, through now fault of his own.
Newcastle and Everton have been linked in recent weeks, and Gazzetta report they’re still keen. Juventus want at least part of his wages off their books, having given him an inflated salary at the time of the dodgy deal and then renegotiated a little last year.
Arthur currently earns €5.5m per year after tax, and has a contract lasting until 2026. The midfielder benefits from the Italian Growth Decree tax break, meaning if he leaves Italy then paying him €5.5m after tax would cost more.
Therefore, Juventus could continue to cover part of his salary. One for Newcastle and Everton to consider in the coming weeks.
