UPDATE: This week, West Ham hopes to finalize a deal for Max Kilman.

West Ham are hoping to “clinch a deal” for Wolves defender Max Kilman as early as this week, according to Jacob Steinberg

The Hammers have been very busy in the summer transfer window so far having signed two players already. Julen Lopetegui is looking to add more players to the squad as he eyes a major rebuild at the London Stadium.

Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme has joined from Palmeiras and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has signed a two-year deal, coming on as a free transfer.

Lopetegui needs to bolster the defence, and West Ham have earmarked Kilman as a potential option.

The Hammers have already had an opening offer of £30 million plus add-ons for the Wolves captain rejected last week, and they will soon submit another bid.

Steinberg wrote for The Guardian (25 June) that West Ham hope to secure the deal for Kilman in the next few days. He would become the third signing for the Hammers, should he join them.

Lopetegui knows the player during his time at Wolves and he wants to bring him to West Ham. The next bid will not include an offer for players to move in the opposite direction, so one can expect the Hammers to submit a tempting bid for Wolves to consider.

Wolves are under no pressure to sell their star player whom they value at around £45 million. However, they would find it hard to turn down an offer close to that mark.

West Ham have already released Angelo Ogbonna following the end of his contract. The Hammers could also offload Kurt Zouma, who struggled to stay match-fit last season.

Nayef Aguerd is also facing an uncertain future at the London club this summer. He has recently switched his agent and a potential exit could be on the cards.

West Ham could also be looking to sign a new right-back with Ben Johnson set to join newly promoted club Ipswich Town on a free transfer.
