INTERESTING NESW; Danny Rohl ‘can’t seem to agree’ on which ‘new’ targets to sign for Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly debating who to sign between two ‘new targets’.

Sheffield Wednesday‘s struggles in front of goal played a huge role in their relegation battle last term, with Ike Ugbo saving them with his loan arrival in January.

The Owls appear to be back to square one now though, with the striker returning to Troyes and Lee Gregory also leaving on a free transfer.

Wednesday desperately need to bolster their attack and have already revisited their interest in Ugbo, Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth.

It had recently been reported that they had already initiated contact with Troyes over a second deal for Ugbo, but he is said to be attracting a lot of interest and could be costly.

Sheffield Wednesday are ‘pushing’ for a new No.9

While the club seemed to be very committed to their pursuit of the Canadian, it now appears they are looking elsewhere at ‘two new foreign targets’.

Journalist Alan Nixon claimed Wednesday are ‘pushing for a striker’, and when asked if it was Ugbo or McGuire, he wrote on X: “Two new foreign targets … but can’t seem to agree on which to go for internally.”

The Owls look to have given up in Ike Ugbo pursuit

It’s unclear who these targets are, but it would suggest that the club have accepted defeat in their bid to re-sign Ugbo.

He would have been a reliable addition for Danny Rohl‘s side, but spending seven figures on him may have been a risk not worth taking.

The Owls need to work fast to bring in a new striker now, but it is quite concerning that Nixon has claimed the board ‘can’t agree’ on who to go for.

While we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, it could suggest some rift between Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri in their transfer business. They certainly can’t afford to have any disagreements this summer, especially only months after the German put pen to paper on a new deal.

With pre-season kicking off later this month, Wednesday need to have tied down a new forward as soon as possible, so they can enjoy a full pre-season campaign at Hillsborough and be ready to start the season in August.
