Sunderland transfer gossip as the Black Cats look to strengthen during the summer window.

Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff has reportedly attracted interest from multiple Championship clubs following an impressive 2023/24 season.

The 27-year-old scored 28 goals in League Two for the Magpies, after netting 41 National League goals to help them win promotion the previous campaign.

SunderlandMiddlesbrough and Derby were all said to be showing interest in Langstaff back in January, with the League Two club reportedly valuing the striker at around £1.5million.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, ‘Langstaff has admirers but Championship clubs opted against signing the Notts County striker in January amid suggestions he would struggle to make the step up.’ He goes on to say Swansea are among the clubs watching the 27-year-old’s situation this summer.

It’s understood, Langstaff’s former club Gateshead would receive a sell-on fee if the striker is sold, said to be around 10 per cent. The striker signed a new contract at Notts County last summer which will run until 2027.

Luke O’Nien reflects on Sunderland’s disappointing end to the season and changes of head coaches during the campaign.

Luke O’Nien admits Sunderland’s head coach changes have been challenging this season but has reiterated that players need to take responsibility.

The Black Cats finished 16th in the Championship, winning just two of their last 15 matches as they slipped down the table. Sunderland also had three head coaches during the 2023/24 campaign, parting company with Tony Mowbray and Michael Beale, with Mike Dodds taking interim charge on two separate occasions.

When asked how challenging it’s been while there have been changes in the dugout, O’Nien told the Echo: “It’s challenging but it’s also, it’s a bit of a weird one when I say this so take it with a pinch of salt, I really enjoy working with different coaches because you see different perspectives, different passions, different ideas. That can only grow and develop you as a player.
