JUST IN; Everton takeover: Journalists react to claim 777 Partners deal has now collapsed

Neither Alan Myers or The Esk believe the “rumour” that 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton has broken down is true.

The Sky Sports journalist and the Toffees blogger were separately asked via Twitter on 19 March whether the American company’s bid to become the new club owners had fallen through and while the latter admitted he had also heard of such claims neither had heard they were accurate.

The Miami-based firm agreed a deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s majority shareholding back in mid-September and the delay in the Premier League making a decision has stretched to more than double the usual length, but Myers predicts a verdict imminently.

In response to the collapse claims The Esk wrote: “I have heard the rumour but there’s no substance to it at this time as far as I know.”

For his part Myers responded: “Not heard that at all”.

To when an announcement would come he said: “Any time now I’d guess”.

Everton takeover now due for Premier League verdict

It appears the situation remains in line with the most recent indications from the club that the takeover bid is still on course, but if a league decision is now imminent it may not be for much longer. As 777 have been bankrolling the club over the months they have waited to see if they can come in at The club have their second profit and sustainability hearing coming up next week in the wake of Nottingham Forest being hit by a comparatively light four-point sanction. it would surely lead to much greater short-term pain if they are rejected.

But in light of their mounting legal issues elsewhere and suggestions that their business model is starting to collapse under the spotlight brought on by the Toffees bid there are some who are convinced it will be much worse long-term if they get the green light.

The Esk himself is adamant they will be unable to get the go ahead to buy Everton and has even suggested that administration might now be an unavoidable fate.

The club have their second profit and sustainability hearing coming up next week in the wake of Nottingham Forest being hit by a comparatively light four-point sanction.

Much like the takeover bid there are contradictory predictions for the outcome, with some suggesting a second points deduction is inevitable, while both Myers and The Esk believe it might be possible to avoid one altogether.

What does seem clear is that the next week or so could be hugely significant for the club’s future.

In other Everton news, the Premier League has made a commitment ahead of the club’s second commission hearing as they are “desperate” to avoid a “nightmare scenario”.
