MUST READ; One thing that is ‘hard to believe’ after Sheffield Wednesday defeat to Ipswich Town.

Sheffield Wednesday have been told one thing has happened at the club that is ‘hard to believe’ after their defeat to Ipswich Town.

Sheffield Wednesday have been brought crashing down to earth in recent weeks, having lost back-to-back games for the first time since January.

.

The Owls conceded a whopping six goals against Ipswich Town yesterday – their biggest defeat since they were beaten 7-0 by Manchester City in the League Cup almost ten years ago.

The loss leaves them in 23rd place and one point from safety, while Ipswich have climbed back into the Championship automatic promotion spots.

The hammering at Hillsborough comes less than a year after the two clubs won promotion from League One, with only two points separating them.

Both sides had battled it out for a place in the automatics, though it ended up being the Tractor Boys that narrowly claimed second place behind Plymouth Argyle.

There has very little to separate Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich, with both meetings last term ending 2-2, while the Owls were unbeaten in the four clashes before that too.

However, Kieran McKenna’s side have catapulted themselves to success this season, while Wednesday find themselves facing a swift return to the third tier.

What is the difference between Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town?

Ipswich Town haven’t played Premier League football since 2002 and hadn’t even managed to reach the League One playoffs before Kieran McKenna took them up last season.

It had previously been Sheffield Wednesday who had looked the most likely to return to the top flight, having reached the Championship playoffs in back-to-back seasons between 2015 and 2017.

However, the Tractor Boys have turned things around this time, but you can’t really blame Sheffield Wednesday’s players or manager Danny Rohl.

According to transfermarkt, Ipswich have spent almost £4 million this season, while they are likely to be coughing up a lot of cash for loan stars such as Brandon Williams and Kieffer Moore.

Meanwhile, the Owls have spent just over £1m and have picked up only two loanees from the Premier League in Jeff Hendrick and James Beadle – with the latter thought to be earning only £3,000-per-week.

Ipswich are clearly in a much better position financially, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

If Dejphon Chansiri was a bit more willing to open his wallet or even just sold the club, then Sheffield Wednesday would have much better opportunities to reach their potential – the potential that Rohl has brought to the side and will get very frustrated about if he isn’t given the resources to reach it.
