West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek insists manager David Moyes has done an “incredible” job at the club.

Moyes has come under fire from some fans again this season despite the Hammers lying seventh in the Premier League.

Kalvin Phillips has endured a difficult start to life at West Ham United after joining the Hammers on loan from Manchester City – but Danny Murphy thinks he will still make England’s Euro 2024 squad.

After just 31 outings for Pep Guardiola‘s Premier League champions in 18 months after leaving Leeds United in the summer of 2022, Phillips went on loan to David Moyes‘ side in January. But he’s struggling.

Far from his best and looking rather rusty, Chris Sutton says he has joined the wrong club – suggesting a move to Brighton or Wolves would have been better. Even Xavi approved a move to Barcelona for him.

He has been afforded three starts in seven games, at fault for Bournemouth’s equaliser and Manchester United’s third in a 3-0 loss. So, is there really any chance of being picked in England’s Euro 2024 squad?

Murphy told TalkSPORT (11.45AM, 13/03) that from speaking to a couple of people around the situation, Phillips will manage to find his way into Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of this summer’s competition.

“Speaking to one or two people, he will still go. He hasgot an opportunity in the last nine or 10 games, he is going to get games. Look at what Gareth has done in the past, he hasn’t got many options in midfield.

“So I think he will go no matter what happens between now and the end of the season – I don’t agree with that. How can you expect to perform at National Team level, when you’re not playing for your club?”

If Phillips is included, then it is clear. Southgate has his favourites, has his way of playing and in certain areas, form cannot come into the equation. Phillips is one of only a few options in that midfield position.

Jordan Henderson can play there, but he is only playing for Ajax – who domestically, are up against very weak sides. Southgate lacks holding midfielders, and that might just allow Phillips to get into the squad.
