David Prutton predicts Leeds United v Stoke City result in 'more twists' verdict

David Prutton has predicted the result of Leeds United versus Stoke City ahead of their Championship clash on Tuesday (5 March).

The Whites were pegged back amid a nine-match winning streak in the Championship, drawing 1-1 with 10-man Huddersfield Town on Saturday (2 March).

Stoke turned a corner in their latest game, beating Middlesbrough 2-0, and will be hoping to extend the six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Prutton thinks Leeds will return to winning ways, though, in a 2-0 triumph.

Predicting the result via Sky Sports on Monday (4 March), Prutton wrote: “The winning run wasn’t going to last forever, but Leeds will still be frustrated they weren’t able to see off a Huddersfield side reduced to 10 with more than half the game remaining.

“They have handed the impetus – ever so slightly – back to Ipswich. But there will be more twists to come.

“Stoke got a much-needed win over Middlesbrough at the weekend and could haul themselves out of the bottom three with a result on Tuesday night. But I still can’t see them getting anything at Elland Road.

“Prediction: 2-0.”

Can Leeds United get back to winning ways against Stoke City?

History would dictate that Leeds could be in for a shock against the Potters, with the Whites winning three of the last six meetings, while Stoke claimed two victories, with a 2-2 draw in the EFL Cup in 2019.

However, current form is very much on Daniel Farke’s side, even despite their FA Cup loss to Chelsea and 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town. They have not lost a single league match since a 1-0 loss to West Brom on December 29.

The Whites will be desperate to take revenge after not being able to take all three points against the Terriers, even with Jonathan Hogg sent off in the first half.

The draw allowed Ipswich Town to steal second place back in the Championship, leapfrogging Leeds, but Leicester City also slipped up as the Foxes lost their third consecutive league game against QPR.

With Leicester facing Sunderland at the Stadium of Light next, and Ipswich taking on Bristol City, Leeds could possibly close the gap at the top of the table even further to just two points.

The attacking talents of Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, Joel Piroe, Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James will all need to be in top form against Stoke if the Whites are to put more pressure on Leicester and Ipswich.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites talent has been hit by a major injury blow that will keep him out for months.
