Leeds United take on Leicester City tonight aiming to cut the gap to the Foxes down to six points, but defeat would see them again facing a drop behind Southampton and Ipswich Town.

The Whites have their biggest game of the season so far at home to Leicester City tonight at Elland Road, looking to keep up their brilliant winning run by extending it to nine on the bounce.

Enzo Maresca’s Foxes pose a huge test for obvious reasons, but Leeds ought to be confident of at least preserving their home unbeaten run this season.

David Prutton predicts Leeds v Leicester

Sky Sports presenter David Prutton has issued his latest Championship predictions ahead of this weekend’s fixture list.

Starting with Leeds’ clash tonight, he believe that the Foxes will come away with a point from Elland Road in a 2-2 draw, thus putting an end to the eight-game winning streak:

“Leeds are in remarkable form. They have stormed into second place off the back of eight straight wins, conceding just a goal in that run. And have the chance to turn the screw and try and make a bit of a break from Ipswich and Southampton below them.

“Leicester still have a big gap, but that could start to look a little smaller if they are beaten here. They lost to Leeds in the reverse fixture, and are coming off the back of defeat at home to Middlesbrough. Will they be feeling a bit nervy? They may if Leeds take an early lead, but I’ll back a draw and a few goals here.”

Prutton’s predictions also brought him to have a look over Southampton’s clash at home to Neil Harris’ Millwall, and Ipswich Town’s home game against Birmingham City.

With that, Prutton backs both the Saints and Ipswich to come away with three points – Southampton 3-1 Millwall, and Ipswich 2-1 Birmingham.

Such a result would put Leeds back into third place on 70 points, with the Tractor Boys overtaking to reach 72, while Southampton would be level on 70.

No team can afford slip-ups in this top two race

Leeds have been immense to get eight wins on the board from eight games in 2024, but now is not really the time to be slipping up again.

As much as losing to Leicester, or even drawing, wouldn’t be the end of the world, relinquishing control of second isn’t ideal.

The two sides behind us are now looking to leapfrog us and our game against Leicester is their best chance, especially when they’re both at home against poor sides.

Quiz: Has Patrick Bamford scored more or less Leeds United goals than these 15 former players?
