So, what has Dwight Yorke said about Sunderland? Let’s take a look.

Dwight Yorke open to Sunderland return

Well, Dwight Yorke has been speaking about Sunderland. He is ready to return to the Stadium of Light.

Ex-Sunderland manager Michael Beale

Yorke played for Sunderland from 2006 until 2009. He subsequently retired.

The former Manchester United star has now said that he would like to manage Sunderland.

Sunderland are now on the hunt for a new permanent manager following the sacking of Michael Beale.

The Championship club have installed Mike Dodds as interim manager until the end of the season, and HITC understands that they are keen on hiring Will Still from Stade de Reims in the summer of 2024

The Sunderland Echo has quoted Yorke as saying: “I’ve played for these clubs and it would be nice to go back to Sunderland, but it doesn’t mean that I’d rule out managing another club in the EFL. I have to be open-minded to the challenge I’d have to take on.”

My View: Dwight Yorke will not become new Sunderland manager

In my opinion, Sunderland are not going to hand Dwight Yorke the managerial role anytime soon.

Sunderland are a massive club who are still in the race for promotion from the Championship to the Premier League via the playoffs.

I do not think that the Black Cats’ bosses are going to hand the managerial role to Yorke.

The 52-year-old is one of the best players to have turned out in the Premier League. The former Trinidad and Tobago international is a legend.

The former Aston Villa and Sunderland player scored 123 goals in 375 appearances in the Premier League in his career.

Yorke won the Premier League three times and the UEFA Champions League once with United.

But, that was as a player. Yorke has done nothing of note to merit a crack at the Sunderland managerial job. His time at Macarthur FC in Australia ended controversially
