JUST IN; Jeff Stelling stunned by what he saw in new Leeds prediction today

Jeff Stelling was stunned by both Leeds United and Southampton as they beat Plymouth and West Brom respectively, suggesting they could be in with a shout in the title race.

This prediction comes after Leicester lost to Middlesbrough, with the legendary broadcaster hinting the chasing pack may have received a glimmer of hope after the weekend’s results

As things stand, Leeds sit in second place, nine points behind the league leaders, and can cut that gap to six when they play the Foxes at Elland Road on Friday 23 February

Speaking live on talkSPORT [06:58], Stelling shared: “I mean, Leeds and Southampton, wow. And Leicester lost to Middlesbrough, you just wonder is there a little glimmer of light for the chasers there?”

Could Leeds United win the Championship title?

Leeds’ winning run of late has put them in with a real shout of sealing the automatic promotion place, but with Southampton sticking close to them, it looks like being a close-run affair until the end of the season.

A win in their game in hand would see the Saints leapfrog Daniel Farke’s side, however their loss against Bristol City proved they aren’t unbeatable, lending hope to Leeds as the race continues.

However, Leicester will also be in both teams’ sights. The gap is a big one, but their recent runs of form have begun to eat away at that gap, and if Leicester start slowing down after their ridiculous form at the beginning of the season, Leeds will be among the clubs looking to take advantage.

The Leeds players look confident, and with a winning run which now spans eight Championship games, there is no reason they cannot continue to impress, having caught the eye of many during their dominant spell.
