  •  Crystal Palace’s rumored interest in McKenna as a replacement for Roy Hodgson may not come to fruition due to a potential £4 million compensation fee and McKenna’s focus on Ipswich Town’s season.

Since Kieran McKenna’s arrival at Ipswich Town back in 2021, their upturn in form has been nothing short of remarkable.

After departing Manchester United for his first head coach role in the Football League, the 37-year-old has taken the Tractor Boys to new heights, with his eyes set on automatic promotion to the Premier League this season to end their 22-year absence from the top flight.

A promotion from League One during his first full season in charge followed by an excellent adaptation to the Championship has seen him linked with a move away from Portman Road, with many Ipswich fans fearful they may lose surely their most prized asset

McKenna’s side have enjoyed a successful return to the Championship thus far, but results of late have seen them slip out of the automatic promotion places.

The Tractor Boys have taken two points from their last three games in the league, but have faced both Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion, but will look back on their defeat to Preston North End as a disappointing result.

When looking back at their last eight fixtures, McKenna’s side have taken eight points, which has resulted in an untimely slump, with only six sides faring worse in the division in that time, all of which are fighting to stay in the Championship.

However, Ipswich are the third-highest scorers in the division, scoring 55 goals this season, only bettered by the Foxes and Southampton.

Their home and away record rank among the highest in the second tier, and, most importantly, they’re still battling the Championship’s big guns for promotion to the Premier League. It’s that achievement that has ultimately seen wandering eyes fixate on the man at the helm, with rumours intensifying over the last couple of weeks following Crystal Palace’s recent form.
