Carlos Corberan misses trick in West Brom 2-2 draw v Ipswich Town with Callum Marshall snub

West Brom fought hard for a point against Ipswich Town, with the two clubs playing out a 2-2 on Saturday (10 February).

Given Ipswich’s place in the table and that the game was away from home, Carlos Corberan should be more than happy with the result.

But the manager did suffer a huge blow, with Daryl Dike stretchered off just 10 minutes after coming onto the pitch, in what looks like another serious injury for the striker.

Corberan turned to John Swift as his replacement, with the Baggies ace making an immediate impact as he put the visitors 2-1 up shortly after.

The manager also brought on Pipa with just under 10 minutes remaining, in what was instead the perfect chance for loan signing Callum Marshall to do what he does best

The young striker joined on loan from West Ham in the January transfer window, making his Albion debut from the bench against Birmingham City earlier this month.

But he was snubbed against the Tractor Boys, despite having 19 goals to his name this season from his time in the Hammers youth ranks.

West Brom boss opts against Marshall

The Northern Ireland international was obviously brought to The Hawthorns for a reason, but Corberan decided against turning to the 19-year-old at Portman Road.

The hosts levelled the tie in the dying seconds, with their substitute Omari Hutchinson netting a 93rd-minute equaliser.

Had the Northern Ireland man been brought on, it could have been a different story for the visitors in their search for promotion.

He would have been desperate to prove himself at his new club, particularly as it was against the team just one place ahead of the Albion in the Championship table.

Marshall needs experience in such matches if he is to one day shine at West Ham, but Corberan was clearly unwilling to give the striker a chance in such an important game.

With Dike potentially sidelined for some time, perhaps the Albion manager will need to rely on his new loanee in the coming months.
