Chelsea can do something tonight vs Crystal Palace that they have never done in Premier League history

Chelsea return to Premier League action tonight with the London derby against Crystal Palace.

It will be interesting to see if they can maintain the good form and feeling from the FA Cup win over Aston Villa last week.

Goals from Conor Gallagher, Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez helped secure a huge win that booked their place in the fifth round to face Leeds United at Stamford Bridge.

It has not quite been the same story in the league recently. They are off the back of two consecutive defeats where they have conceded at least four goals.

This brought a lot of pressure on to the job of Mauricio Pochettino, however he remains in his position of manager.

One side they have historically done well against in the top flight though is Palace, with them travelling to Selhurst Park tonight to conclude this weekend’s action.

Chelsea can make history tonight

In fact, as tweeted by Blue Footy, victory for the Blues tonight would make it 13 in a row against their opponents.

This is a stat they have not reached in the Premier League era against any time, and is for sure a showcase of the dominance the Blues have in this fixture in recent history.

They carried this run on earlier this season with a narrow 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Noni Madueke came off the bench to win the game for the Blues late on from the spot.

The meeting was also the last, and so far only time, that Chelsea fans have seen Romeo Lavia in action.

At this moment, there is no reported date for when the youngster is going to return to action.

One of the most frustrating stories of the Blues season so far has been with Romeo Lavia, who’s made just one appearance so far due to injury.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined last summer from Southampton, but missed the opening months of the campaign with an injury problem. Despite appearing for a Chelsea debut at the end of December, he’s been back on the treatment table again in 2024 with no timeframe yet on his return date.

When asked if Lavia may return from injury in time for the League Cup final against Livepool later this month, head coach Mauricio Pochettino responded via Football.London: “No. He is not training with the team. He is still recovering. But no, no, impossible. Still not on the pitch.”

There’s sections of the fanbase that are desperate to see Lavia on the pitch and are so frustrated by his poor injury luck.

The Belgian youngster has addressed Chelsea supporters this weekend with a post on social media.

Lavia wrote on X: “Received a lot of support messages and I wanted to let you know that it means a lot to me. I’m gutted not to be able to help the team, but I’m fully focused on coming back. The wait will be worth it…”
