JUST IN; Robbie Flower Expresses his feelings over what heard from Leeds star.

Robbie Fowler has shared his reaction to Patrick Bamford suggesting that some Leeds United fans parked outside his house after he missed a penalty against Newcastle United in the final stages of last season.

Patrick Bamford has silenced a lot of his critics with his recent form. The 30-year-old has been absolutely outstanding of late, forcing his way up the pecking order in Daniel Farke’s squad.

In fact, the recent 1-0 win over Norwich saw Bamford cover more ground than he has in any other appearance in his Leeds career. That is remarkable given what Marcelo Bielsa demanded of his players during his tenure.

But of course, it has been a long road for Bamford. Last season was not a positive one for anyone associated with the club. But Bamford endured a particularly disappointing time. And one of the lowest moments came when he had a penalty saved when Leeds were 1-0 up against Newcastle in May.

Leeds would go on to draw that game 2-2 and miss the chance to move out of the relegation zone. Of course, that would prove to be our final point of the season.

Bamford said this week that he returned home from that game to find supporters waiting outside his house.

And speaking to the Sunday Mirror (11/2; page 65), Robbie Fowler suggested that he could not believe that some went to such lengths to express their frustration.

“To hear Patrick Bamford reveal that he was paid a home visit by angry Leeds fans after missing a crucial penalty last season made my blood run cold,” he said.

“Bamford later had to cancel his social media account after threats were made against his family.

“Do those Leeds fans who took the trouble to find where he loved so that they could threateningly park their cars across his driveway actually think their centre-forward missed on purpose?”

Most angered by behaviour of section of Leeds fans

The good news is that the large majority of Leeds fans have called out such behaviour, because the large majority of football fans would not do something so stupid.

Given what Bamford went through, it arguably makes it all the more remarkable that he was prepared to take a penalty at Stoke earlier this season. Sadly, he was also unable to find the back of the net on that occasion.

Thankfully, Bamford has been able to stick two fingers up to his critics over the last few weeks. But even if he had not found form, there is absolutely no question that he never deserved what happened after that draw with Newcastle.
