JUST IN; Midfielder admits he wants to be at Spurs ‘for as long as possible’

Pape Matar Sarr is absolutely loving life at Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that he wants to spend many years at the North London club and win major honours with the side.

Before the start of the season, few would have predicted that Sarr would become a fixture in Tottenham’s starting eleven, given that he is competing against more experienced campaigns in Pierre-Emile , Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and even Oliver Skipp.

However, the 21-year-old has now arguably become Spurs’ most important midfielder, with his engine in the middle of the park proving pivotal to Ange Postecoglou’s high-intensity approach.

The Senegal international is evidently also quite a popular member of the dressing room and he has now admitted that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at the club, revealing that there is a real family feel to the environment at Hotspur Way.

It has not been all smooth sailing for Sarr, who struggled to get game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for much of last season. The former Metz man believes that he is now enjoying the fruits of the hard work that he has put in since arriving at N17.

He added: “In my view, it’s been a lot of hard work which is now beginning to pay dividends a little. I’ve never stopped striving, always putting the work in, because when I came here, I came out of a pretty difficult season, arriving as I did from France, so there were a lot of changes for me to adapt to.

“But I never stopped and just kept up with my hard work in training. Now I’ve been reaping the rewards of all that hard work this season, starting matches, scoring goals and signing my new contract, so yes, I’m very happy. I try to enjoy my football, to help the team the best I can and to draw benefit from every match that I play.”

It is sometimes easy to forget that Sarr is just 21 as he is now starting to play with a lot of maturity. The Senegalese midfielder is nowhere close to his peak yet and will only continue to get better as he gains more experience at the top level.
