Borussia Dortmund have bolstered their midfield by signing German international Pascal Groß from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who featured in Germany’s EURO 2024 squad, has penned a two-year contract with the Bundesliga club after successfully completing a medical examination.
He also has 70 Bundesliga appearances under his belt, with 6 goals and 12 assists, and has earned eight caps for the German national team.
Pascal Groß shared his enthusiasm: “I’m delighted to be a Borussia Dortmund player. Signing for this club is a huge deal for me, as I’ve been a Dortmund fan since I was a kid. I’ll try to repay the club’s faith in me by playing my game, and I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates in front of the BVB fans at the Signal Iduna Park and to work hard with everyone here to achieve our ambitious goals.”
Groß’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter at Brighton. Technical Director David Weir said, “We fought hard to convince Pascal to stay with us, but the lure of his boyhood team proved too strong. It’s an incredible opportunity for Pascal, and nobody would wish to deny him that chance.”
Brighton’s head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed his understanding of Groß’s decision, saying, “It is understandable that he wanted to join one of the very top clubs in Germany, and he goes with our best wishes for the future.”
Chairman Tony Bloom praised Groß’s contributions: “In terms of his contribution on the pitch, Pascal goes down as the club’s greatest-ever Premier League signing. He has been a joy to watch and contributed so many important and memorable moments across the last seven seasons.”
