SO MUCH MORE; Chris Davies confirms Birmingham City approach as Jay Stansfield situation poised to develop.

The latest on Jay Stansfield as Birmingham City’s stance unveiled amid Sunderland and Hull City interest.

Birmingham City will make an effort to sign Fulham striker Jay Stansfield permanently if the opportunity arises, manager Chris Davies has confirmed.

Blues are very keen on re-signing Stansfield after the 21-year-old claimed all of the club’s individual accolades for the 2023/24 season. The 12 goals and two assists notched in 43 Championship appearances merely scratched the surface on his influence at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Stansfield became a mightily popular figure for his work rate, flair and clinical finishing ability. The idea of the Fulham man linking up with last campaign’s League One Golden Boot winner, Alfie May, is a scary prospect for every other team in the English third tier.

Davies won’t get ahead of himself in regards to signing Stansfield permanently as he’s aware of the drop in division, but the manager is happy to have the conversation – and the approach of the club is to stay firmly in the loop.

“There’s always a chance,” Davies admitted after the open training session at Birmingham City Elite Performance and Innovation Centre.

Birmingham City will hold talks with Fulham over signing Jay Stansfield on a permanent basis, but it won't be straightforward.

“He’s a player that won all the awards last year and when I analysed the team before I came in he was the stand-out player. He’s gone back to a really good Premier League club that obviously value him highly and they have their own plans and their own ambitions.

“If he became available and we could do it, it would be something that would be really exciting for everyone. But everyone knows it will be a challenge to do that,” Davies continued.
