NEWS COUNTDOWN: Following the Cardiff City update, West Brom and Sheffield United received a €2 million transfer boost.

West Brom could be given a clear run to sign a striker for a cut-price transfer fee.

West Brom stand a good chance of landing Sory Kaba after the stance of a transfer rival emerged.

Reports came out of Spain on Thursday (July 25) that Kaba had been made surplus to requirements by UD Las Palmas. He was reportedly told to find a new club quickly but he’s rejected a few approaches.

Clubs in Greece and Turkey have made offers but Kaba is favouring a return to the Championship. West Brom, Cardiff City and Sheffield United are all said to be keen with the Baggies holding the most interest.

Both WBA and Sheffield United could be in luck as it appears Cardiff may not even hold an interest. Despite previously playing for them, the Bluebirds are looking at alternative targets.

According to Glen Williams, the Cardiff City correspondent for WalesOnline, a move for Kaba would be a ‘big departure from what they are after’. His admission has hinted that the Bluebirds are looking at other options and that Kaba isn’t a priority for them.

As for Sheffield United’s position, they signed Kieffer Moore from AFC Bournemouth this summer. Moore is taller than Kaba, and has won promotion before from the Championship. It’s unsure whether Kaba is a target given they have already recruited Moore, or whether they want strength in depth, and would consider him as a back-up option.

The 29-year-old was subject of transfer interest from Birmingham City, Cardiff and Watford last summer, but he ended up signing for Las Palmas. He scored just once in 17 La Liga games after signing in a deal worth over €2m.
