JUST NOW;’ Nathan Judah drops exciting update on Yerson Mosquera on day five of Wolves pre-season.

Speculation has been rife about Yerson Mosquera this summer – and one journalist has now dropped an update on the defender, five days into pre-season.

Mosquera spent last season on loan at FC Cincinnati, before heading over to Spain to play at Villarreal.

Mosquera had been tasked with getting back on track after suffering a serious hamstring injury, and he was able to get regular minutes in the US.

He was then sent to Villarreal as Wolves wanted their youngster to test himself in a better standard of league.

Mosquera impressed at Villarreal, and the Spanish side had wanted him back for the 2024/25 season.

But Nathan Judah has given an update today that will go down well with a lot of Wolves fans.

Yerson Mosquera set to stay, he’s looked ‘happy, strong & impressive’ in pre-season

It has been reported this morning by Nathan Judah on X that Mosquera is set to stay at Wolves.

The Colombia international was thought to be a player Gary O’Neil was particularly keen to take a look at in pre-season. In fact, the manager did actually say as much back in March. And it sounds as though he has made a solid impression.

Judah wrote today: “Yerson Mosquera is set to stay with Wolves & make a real push for a regular starting spot in Gary O’Neil’s team this season.

“Has looked happy, strong & impressive during training camp.”

It would seem that the chances of Mosquera returning to Villarreal are now very slim.

The Spanish outfit are about to sign Willy Kambwala from Manchester United, which casts real doubt on their pursuit of Mosquera.

Mosquera could be like a new signing

It is always a bit cliche to refer to a returning player as being ‘like a new signing’. But Mosquera really could be just that for Wolves, who obviously need a new centre-back.

Max Kilman has gone now and while Wolves are expected to sign a replacement, it seems like the stage is set for Mosquera to finally make his mark for the club in 2024/25.
