Jean-Clair Todibo first emerged as a West Ham target last week when we lodged a £30 million bid for him, but that was before Julen Lopetegui paid £40 million to bring Max Kilman to the London Stadium.
At the time, it seemed like the Hammers’ move to sign the French defender was somewhat of a red herring – one used to try and flush out Wolves as we attempted to bring Kilman to East London.
It could be argued that the West Ham boss needs to strengthen his central defensive ranks even further still though.
Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd were both not fit for purpose last season, and big upgrades will be required on them if Lopetegui is to guide us to a successful season.
Kilman was a major coup for the Hammers, and now the addition of one more elite centre-back could take us to a whole new level entirely.
Could Todibo be the man for the job at the London Stadium? A new development has just emerged, and it’s a big twist on the original claims…
Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham takes new turn
The 6ft 3in centre-back’s future with Nice is very much up in the air right now.
Where he’ll be playing his football next season is unclear as things stand.
And now there’s been a big twist to proceedings, with the Hammers initially thought to be out of the running for Todibo after we signed Kilman.
According to a report from Nice-Matin (print edition July 10th, page 41), the Hammers are actually the only club to have made a significant offer for the 24-year-old centre-back – one worth £30 million.
