Ipswich Town: Former players who currently play abroad

Former Town defender Tommy Smith has signed for Australian side Macarthur FC. Ross Halls looks at which other ex-Blues are now playing abroad.

RYAN TUNNICLIFFE

Town career: 2013-2014 (on loan from Man United)

Appearances: 29

The midfielder is also plying his trade in the top-flight of Australian football, having joined Adelaide United on a two-year-deal following his release from Portsmouth last summer.

Tunnicliffe has had quite a journey since his spell at Town, going on to play for Fulham, Wigan, Blackburn, Millwall, Luton and Pompey

AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES

Town career: 2015-2016 (on loan from Arsenal)

Appearances: 32 Goals: 2

The winger is at French side Lyon, who he joined on a four-year deal after his contract expired at Arsenal last summer.

He spent the whole of 2022/23 season on loan at Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League

BEN FOLAMI

Town career: 2015-2021 (Academy graduate)

Appearances: 7 Goals: 1

The forward left the Blues in the summer of 2021 and returned to his native Australia to join Melbourne Victory, having initially been on loan.

Folami is a regular for the Victory and won his first cap for his country against Japan in a FIFA World Cup qualification game back in March 2022.

BEN MORRIS

Town career: 2013-2023 (Academy graduate)

Appearances: 5

The forward left the Blues last February to join USL Championship side Detroit City, after 16 years at Portman Road.

Morris finished top goalscorer in his first season in America and has extended his contract for another season.

Town career: 2020-2021 (on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Appearances: 30 Goals: 1

The winger is still playing in Germany, having joined second-tier side SV Wehen Wiesbaden from Darmstadt 98 last summer.

He helped the latter win promotion to the top-flight last season but was released at the end of his contract.

TROY PARROTT

Town career: 2021 (on loan from Spurs)

Appearances: 18 Goals: 2

The Irish forward is currently on loan at Dutch top-flight side Excelsior from Tottenham, where he has scored seven goals so far.

He spent last season at Championship side Preston North End.

PIOTR MALARCZYK

Town career: 2015-2016

Appearances: 6

The Polish defender struggled during his time at Portman Road, leaving the club to return to his homeland to sign for Cracovia in 2016.

He is now back at his boyhood club Korona Kielce after a spell at Piast Gliwice.
