‘That seems poetic’ – Rob McElhenney sends heartwarming League One target to legendary Wrexham fan on his 100th birthday after seeing League Two prediction come true

McElhenney, known for his role in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, sent birthday wishes to Arthur Massey, a devoted supporter of Wrexham, on the occasion of his 100th birthday. It is the second successive year that McElhenney has wished the fan on his birthday.

On his 99th birthday a year ago, McElhenney, in response to a tweet from his daughter Julie Birrell, wrote: “Happy Birthday Arthur!! Let’s celebrate 100 in the EFL!!!!”

And indeed, they were promoted back to the English Football League following a record-breaking season in the National League.

WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

This time on the occasion of his 100th birthday, Birrell wrote: “Well Rob you were right! Happy 100th birthday Dad. Can we make it back-to-back promotions?”

The Hollywood actor quickly responded to the tweet and said: “Happy 100th Arthur!!! Let’s celebrate 101 in League 1!!! That seems poetic to me. ❤️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿”

Massey’s unwavering support for Wrexham dates back to his childhood and was highlighted in the documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, where he shared his passion for the club. Additionally, Massey had the honour of meeting His Majesty the King during a visit to Wrexham in December 2022, further demonstrating his significance within the community.

WHAT NEXT?

Wrexham are in second spot in League Two and are currently on course for an automatic promotion to League One next season. However, they have a mere three-point gap with fourth-placed Crewe Alexandra after dropping two points against Harrogate on Tuesday. They will be back in action at the Racecourse once again when they host mid-table Tranmere on Saturday.
