Sunderland: Jobe Bellingham flashpoint is a serious reminder to all: View

Jobe Bellingham’s move to Sunderland has been a solid deal from the Black Cats and he offered a reminder at the weekend

It can be easy to underestimate Jobe Bellingham‘s career at Sunderland given the exploits of superstar brother Jude at Real Madrid – but the youngster offered a timely reminder as to how much he can bring to the table in the weekend’s games.

Jobe followed in his brothers’ footsteps by leaving Birmingham City at the age of 17 – and whilst Sunderland may be a less desirable option than the bright lights of Borussia Dortmund, the midfielder is still an immensely talented young player, with Jude’s move to Germany being one of a kind as opposed to the norm.

Big things are still expected of Jobe, however, and with his move to Sunderland following the likes of Mike Dodds, Kristjan Speakman and more, it marked a new dawn for the young talent.

He has taken some slack for his lack of output in recent weeks, leading to somewhat unfair comparisons to his brother. But the weekend’s fixtures offered a serious reminder as to just what he can produce.

How Jobe Bellingham offered a serious reminder to everyone for Sunderland

Bellingham had only registered one goal and zero assists in his last 15 games leading up to the away clash against Southampton; and with Sunderland on a five-game losing streak, it looked as though he wouldn’t do anything to end his barren run of form.

But with the Black Cats halving the deficit on the south coast to 2-1 at the interval, Bellingham took the bull by the horns and scored an absolute howitzer to pull the Wearside outfit level.

It’s testament to how his development is coming along. Sharing the same surname as his brother can usually come with comparisons but it’s easy to forget just how big a talent he is in his own right.
At just 18, he’s already got six goals from midfield for the Black Cats this season and that, taken into isolation, is a massively impressive tally. It’s not been the best run of form for Sunderland recently with six losses in the second-tier, but with such a young squad and with a permanent manager set to take over the reins next season from Dodds’ interim spell, it will likely be a ‘go again’ situation from the Stadium of Light outfit

Jobe Bellingham transfer latest

Despite taking some criticism of late, there are a number of huge clubs interested in the young English midfielder.

Real Madrid – where Jude plies his trade – have been linked with a move for the 18-year-old, whilst Newcastle supposedly spoke to him before he completed a move to their local rivals.

Elsewhere, Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on the midfielder with his development continuing to grow in the north-east; and Lazio were reportedly weighing up a double swoop for Jobe and his Sunderland team-mate Jack Clarke in the winter window, though any move failed to materialise and now with Clarke out of action until the closing stages of the season, it has all but derailed Sunderland’s push for the play-offs.

Where Bellingham will end up in the future will continue to remain just speculation – but there is no doubt that he is still a fine young talent and this weekend’s showing proves that beyond doubt.
