JUST IN; Ange Postecoglou makes Timo Werner vow as he highlights importance of Tottenham transfer

Ange Postecoglou has hailed Timo Werner for his Tottenham contribution ever since his loan move from RB Leipzig at the beginning of January

Ange Postecoglou believes there is “more to come” from Timo Werner at Tottenham. After a difficult first half of the season with RB Leipzig, the German international made the move to north London in January after Spurs struck a loan deal with the Bundesliga club.

Making an immediate impact on his debut with an assist for Rodrigo Bentancur in the 2-2 draw at Manchester United, Werner also contributed in the win over Brentford with a hand in two goals. The attacker’s first goal for the club duly arrived last Saturday in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace as he was in the right position to convert Brennan Johnson’s fine ball across the face of goal.Ange Postecoglou has been impressed by Timo Werner's start to life at Tottenham

Struggling in the Premier League during his two years with Chelsea, Tottenham could well see the real Werner with his qualities perfect for the Spurs system and also Postecoglou’s ability to bring out the best in his players. The 58-year-old does believe the January signing has made an impact for the club in his seven appearances for the Lilywhites, with his showing against Crystal Palace his “best performance” in a Tottenham shirt so far.

“I think he’s been really important,” said Postecoglou in his pre-match press conference for the Aston Villa encounter. “You can only imagine if we didn’t bring him in in January, it would have been a much bigger burden on the other players in the group. Particularly when Sonny was away as well.

“We threw him in straight away. And when you come in in January, especially for someone like Timo, standing as a mature player, he’s not a young player we’ve brought in to develop, we’re bringing him in to make an impact, and I think he has made an impact for us.
