JUST IN; Former Premier League manager reveals his preferred promotion candidates. Leeds or Ipswich?

‘I want’… Former Premier League manager shares who he’d rather see get promoted… Leeds or Ipswich

Leeds United’s full focus will now be back on the promotion race after their defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Whites gave a good account of themselves in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Stamford Bridge and were only narrowly beaten 3-2 courtesy of a late goal by Conor Gallagher.

Daniel Farke actually changed almost half of his starting XI for the game in midweek amid frustrations over the scheduling of Leeds’ fixture list, and so is always likely to have had one eye on tomorrow’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

Leeds will be looking to extend their winning run to an astonishing 10 league matches when they make the short trip across West Yorkshire, ahead of Ipswich Town’s match at Plymouth Argyle, and Southampton’s at Birmingham City.

Speaking on talkSPORT yesterday, former Premier League manager says he thinks and hopes that Leeds will pip Ipswich to automatic promotion in May.

He said: “I just think Leeds, I really do. I want them back. I want them back in the Premier League. I have got nothing against Ipswich. Kieran McKenna has done a wonderful job, but if I had to choose one, then Elland Road. I want that back.”

Leeds may have strung together a really impressive winning run but know they cannot afford to slip up with Ipswich also enjoying a fine bit of form themselves.

With both sides sat on 72 points, Leicester six clear and Southampton just slightly further back on 67, it is a standard that has never been seen before at this level.

Several pundits have already been giving their opinions and hopes as to who they want to see promoted, and it is fair to say there are some differing views.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan would like to see the Whites return to the Premier League, while perhaps unsurprisingly, Gabby Agbonlahor would prefer Ipswich to come up.
