Jese Rodriguez was once hailed as the natural heir to Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
Jese Rodriguez was hailed as the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at Real Madrid but ended up having a very different career littered with controversies and unique stories. He was regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents after breaking through at Real Madrid in 2011 but never managed to fulfil the early potential he showed at the Bernabeu.
Jese featured regularly for Los Blancos for a few years but saw his progress derailed by a serious knee injury he suffered while playing in the Champions League in 2013. He struggled to hold down a regular starting spot upon his return, with manager Rafa Benitez and his successor Zinedine Zidane mainly using Jese as a back-up option from the bench.
It was around this time that Jese embarked on a music career, forming a reggaeton band called Big Flow with close friend DJ Nuno in 2014. The pair released two singles on YouTube before disbanding later that year, with Jese later announcing that he would pursue a solo career under the name Jey M.
Jese then entered a relationship with Spanish reality star Aurah Ruiz before leaving Real Madrid to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016. However, he struggled to settle in Paris and was sent out on a number of loans, including to the Premier League with Stoke City for the 2017/18 season.
The Spaniard scored just one goal for Stoke during his only season at the club, making 13 appearances for the Potters before returning to PSG at the end of the campaign. He was forced to juggle his football career with the drama of a court case after Ruiz, who had broken up with him, accused him of neglecting his duties as a father.
Jese then countersued Ruiz for slander and harassment and got his own way as his ex-partner was sentenced to nine days of community service. However, they were pictured kissing outside the courtroom and went on to rekindle their relationship until things went south just a few days later.
