A video circulated on social media over the weekend showing a supporter in Middlesbrough’s away end at Leicester appearing to make a racist gesture. Middlesbrough commented on Sunday they would take the “strongest action possible” against anybody found to have violated their anti-discrimination policy and Leicestershire Police have made enquires into the incident.“The force is aware of a video posted online in which a racist gesture is reported to have been made,” a Leicestershire Police spokesperson told the PA news agency. “The video relates to an incident at King Power Stadium between Leicester City and Middlesbrough on Saturday (February 17). Officers are working with colleagues from Cleveland Police and both clubs as part of ongoing enquiries.”

The Boro statement on Sunday read: “Middlesbrough Football Club are aware of an incident which took place during yesterday’s game at Leicester City. We are investigating this and are working with the relevant authorities to identify the individual(s) involved.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach towards racism and all forms of discriminatory behaviour and will take the strongest action possible. Our club is an inclusive football club where everyone should feel safe and welcome.”

Middlesbrough have released a statement confirming they are investigating an alleged incident of racism from a supporter in the away end at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

Michael Carrick’s side picked up an important 2-1 victory on the pitch, but celebrations have been somewhat marred by a video circulating on social media in the aftermath which appears to show one Boro fan making a racist gesture towards Leicester City supporters.

Releasing a statement after being made aware of the video, the club reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to such behaviour and promised to take the strongest action possible on anyone found guilty. They are now investigating and working with the relevant authorities to identify the individual(s) involved.
